Food Blogging
In my three years of blogging, these are the three resources that have helped me the most. If you’re creating a food blog, too, they’ll help you get off to a great start.Food Blogger Pro is a fabulous community headed up by Bjork and Lindsay of Pinch of Yum. I’m a member, and the videos and forums are invaluable resources. Imagine being able to ask any of your blog-related questions to a group of over 900 helpful people, including Bjork and Lindsay themselves–it’s awesome. I’ve gotten quick and helpful responses to every query I’ve made. The videos will teach you everything from how to set up your blog to how to take photographs with artificial lighting. Enrollment is currently closed, but you can sign up for the waitlist here and get notified when it opens up again later this year.Kiersten Frase of Oh My Veggies recently published an awesome e-book called How to Monetize Your Food Blog, which really demystifies the process of optimizing your ads in addition to explaining several other sources of income. Since setting up a tier of ad networks the way Kiersten recommends, my ad income has almost doubled!
Lindsay Ostrom of Pinch of Yum wrote a fabulous e-book on food photography, which helped me so much with improving my photos and getting them posted on recipe submission sites. The book also comes with a whole set of video tutorials, which is how I learned to use Lightroom and Photoshop! I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Pinch of Yum also has this great page about getting started with a food blog, and this page with resources for bloggers.
Cookie and Kate has a nice post about starting a food blog.
Hosting
I use BigScoots for web hosting and can’t recommend them highly enough! Their support people are super knowledgeable and always surprise me with how quickly they get back to me.
Looking for a progressive phone company?
Probably not since this is a food site, but I can’t resist: I have Credo for cell phone service and have been a customer of theirs ever since my mom and I got our landline switched over to them when I was about 12. They’re America’s only progressive phone company, meaning they donate portions of their proceeds to amazing causes, and their customer service is just the best. Check them out here.
